Caolin / Caolin 2024
“Caolin”, the International Ceramics Fair & Festival
In 2024 Cluj International Ceramics Biennale is proud to partner with “Caolin”, the International Contemporary Ceramics Fair & Festival in making Cluj-Napoca the epicenter of Eastern European ceramic art :) Between September 11 and 15 2024 we will welcome you in our specially designed outdoor exhibition area in the Union Squre, right in the heart of Cluj Napoca.
What is Caolin?
Caolin started in 2014 and was never “just a fair”. It is a complex cultural experience designed by a dedicated team which, for almost ten years now, has managed to grow it into one of the largest events of it's kind in Eastern Europe. Today, at it’s seventh edition, Caolin successfully brings together artists and traders and promotes traditional craftsmanship, design and innovation in ceramic art. Also, the team behind it has been running countless family-friendly educational workshops for all of those interested in discovering the mysteries of ceramic art, interacting with artists or simply learning the craft. A notable aspect is that since 2017 Caolin has been under the High Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maria of Romania.
In 2024 “Caolin” will welcome all art enthusiasts with an innovative approach: a dedicated outdoor exhibition space created in the city’s main square hosting dozens of artists and traders who will showcase and sell original ceramic items, several pop-up exhibitions from guest artists, our own Cluj Ceramics Biennale Collection exhibition (comprised of donated works over the years), several creative workshops opened to the public and other related events in other venues in the city.
This year's symbol, the Pegasus Statuette, with wings decorated in the style characteristic of the ancient Cucuteni ceramic culture, symbolizes the union of tradition and contemporaneity, showing inspiration and artistic freedom. This conceptual proposal honors the cultural heritage of Cucuteni ceramics by bringing it into dialogue with modern art forms. The choice of Pegasus as the emblem of the Caolin festival underlines the innovative spirit of ceramicists around the world.
We are strongly inviting all ceramic artists, product designers, jewellers, craftsmen, traders or producers to register to participate. It is a unique opportunity to sell and showcase your work in front of thousands of people in the heart of Transylvania's most vibrant and hip city: Cluj-Napoca.

As a “focus on artist” exhibitor with maximum 5 pieces of work. This is suited for artists wanting to showcase their works even if they are not present.
